Suggestion: Make it so it shows up in admin chat when someone uses the spectate feature + make it show who they are spectating
Addons Needed (workshop link): N/A
Reason: Gets abused to high hell to the point i need to do important meetings in discord otherwise everyone and their nan known about it, i'd prefer to keep in character things in character if at all possible!

Even if it was to show up in chat that they go into spectate, they can just choose to do !spectate, and then you cannot see who/where they are spectating at, just that they are spectating.

icl when I was admin I always did this to find everything I needed and never got caught once

Icl, it would just be another thing that clutters up chat for staff when it is already like twice as active for us with staff chat, people joining with warnings messages, people leaving and exiting admin mode, etc. It makes it easy to miss some important things at times. As far as I know, spectating shows up in the logs, so if it comes down to it, that can just be checked.
I'm not too keen on having all that cluttering chat for me as well.

Logs can be checked, so if you hold and important meeting you can go through the logs with a staff member and see who was spectating around that time. Just remember it's not gonna be 100% accurate as people could be just spectating 5 minutes before the meeting or simply started spectating out of coincidence and not involved to the meeting itself. The feature itself of posting a message for staff members can easily be worked around and probs wont be checked as spectate is a commonly used command.

I just need nosy staff to not look at my meetings!
Simply ask like an Admin thats on, or a staff member in fleet or gen team to look through logs for you during the meeting from time to time. If a person gets caught I doubt people will continue doing it.

if you don't want it cluttering staff chat maybe you should have thought about that before you abused it to fuck
(directed at all staff, not you, idk or care if you have done it)

It should come up in the staff chat when someone enters spectate mode and who they are spectating (if anyone). If they are not spectating someone then there are maybe 3 reasons (I can think of right now) for it. 1 - they are abusing spectate, 2 - they are watching a possible cheater who can see if they are being spectated and the staff is trying to be sneaky, 3 - during an event.

No reason for this not to be a thing.

This is a silly argument,
why would i as the player have to make sure staff aren’t spying on my meetings.

Right now i have to ask either Chi or Cobala to make sure the command isn’t used on me EVERY TIME i do a meeting, why would i as a player need to do that?

Staff should facilitate to players, not the other way around, you know the systems fucked when you gotta ask staff to make sure staff aren’t breaking rules.

I know its silly, but like until the change with spectating happens it would just be best for you to ask people to check through the logs, I'm only thinking of finding out who in the staff team is doing that in the first place and then even further spreading the word about it to others.

I don't want people spying on my super duper top secret garrys mod meetings please! The European union would crumble if this info got leaked

To be clear, this is a good idea but it will turn into what admin mode is, just a message. You cannot see where they are if you do !spectate, I personally use it a lot when I'm just seeing where ppl in my reg are if I'm like hosting a training or something which I don't think is an agregious abuse of my power as staff. However, if adding it will make the complaint go away add it.

I’m sorry Locho but due to new evidence I will be filing a report in the courthouse. This behaviour is unacceptable and should not be tolerated

The following Suggestion has been Accepted

Senior staff have been discussing this suggestion internally for a while now. We agree that having a more immediate "notification" when staff are using spectate would make it easier to ensure that it is not abused as much, however we do not feel notifying all staff is needed at this time.

What we will be implementing once I have tested it further is a system were Admin+ are notified when a staff member either: Uses !spectate or Snaps to a person in Spectate.

If you have any issues or concerns about this approach please contact myself or another HA+.
